Seven Springs Boro “Disbands” Police

The Somerset Daily American quotes Frank Kovak, Seven Springs Borough Manager saying that the “Council voted unanimously to disband the police department as of December 31, 2010.”  According to the article Seven Springs Resort notified the department that their contract would not be renewed. That will end 37 years of work protecting guests and home owners. Let that action sink in.

Yes, the resort has a security department but their actions are limited by law. Not only does the resort utilize the services provided by this department but all of the home owner associations have a line item expenditure for police protection in their budgets.  “Money” was cited as the deciding factor.

This means that if and when trouble occurs the “HELP” call will go to State Police.

  1. If you happen to be on the mountain tomorrow (Saturday) our sources share that there will be a meeting of concerned citizens. The Trenthouse B&B on County Line Road is the place and 10 am is the time.

The Seven Springs Police service a few miles of County Line Road in both directions from the main entrance of the resort. Home owners and full time residents are looking for answers as to what the service level will be and how long it will take for State Police to arrive when called upon.

  2. UPDATE the next Boro meeting is scheduled for Wednesday July 21 in the Seasons 3 at 10 am.

  3. It appears Seven Springs now has an assigned State trooper on property Trp Wills has been setting radar speed traps inside the Main entrance with citations being processed by the Magistrate in Confluence PA.

If only the local commuities of Middlecreek and Rockwood could get that type of personal serve.
